2007-2008 Accomplishments
- 508 children attended Mi Escuelita - the highest enrollment we have seen
- 201 graduated with 90% of our children entering English language kindergarten classes
- 178 of our graduating children had an oral English vocabulary that was 17% greater than the average vocabulary of an American child whose native language is English
- 80% of our teachers completed college courses
- 90% of Mi Escuelita parents worked on literacy projects with their child every weeknight
- 58,800 books were checked out by parents to read to their children at night
- 54,556 hours of volunteer service were donated to Mi Escuelita children
- Board members donated more than 400 hours toward completing a strategic plan to chart our future course
- New collaborations were formed with Good Shepherd Episcopal School and Greenhill School including scholarships for Mi Escuelita children.
- A new playground was installed at our St. Matthews site by volunteers from Deloitte Consulting.
- Collaborated with the Dallas Arboretum and with Camp Fire to provide field trips and activities for students
- Our classes learned about other cultures through multicultural activities and presentations
- Mi Escuelita children learned the importance of giving back to the community by providing thousands of cans of food to the area food banks and raising money for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital via the annual Trikeathon.
