Our Volunteers Are The Best!

There are lots of ways to volunteer at Mi Escuelita.

Many regular volunteers adopt a classroom as a reader or a classroom assistant and form relationships with the children. Some people can’t commit to a regular time, so they volunteer when and as they can. Every little thing you do helps the children of Mi Escuelita.

Become A Classroom Reader

Come and read to a classroom of 18 adorable and loving preschoolers for 30 minutes! This usually takes place from 12-12:30 p.m. and you can come as once a week, once a month, whatever works for you. Reading to the children instills a love for reading and helps them learn important pre-reading skills. Exposing the children to a variety of people and accents deepens their understanding of English.

Teach A Lesson

Have a special talent, skill or knowledge? Did you grow up in another country? Volunteers have done presentations on teeth brushing, hand washing, nutrition, different countries, musical instruments, safety with animals, and a variety of things relating to the lesson plans. This usually involves a 30 minute activity in each classroom.

Children at this age are quick to absorb new information, so lessons about nutrition and good hygiene help them start good habits early.

Organize a Book or Supply Drive

Many of our students do not have books at home. Family finances do not allow for this luxury. You can help get books into the hands of our preschoolers. There is always a need for new and gently used books appropriate for 3-5 yr. olds.

We also need supplies of all kinds – school supplies, classroom toys, paper products, and cleaning supplies. You can view our wish list for more ideas.

Each year, supply drives save money that would have been spent buying those classroom supplies and site materials.
