  • October: A Month of Culture and Creativity

October is always an exciting time at Mi Escuelita, filled with meaningful activities that enrich our students’ learning experiences. This month featured a vibrant tapestry of celebrations, beginning with our Hispanic Heritage Month festivities. Community volunteers stepped into the spotlight, organizing events at each of our Mi Escuelita centers, complete with hands-on activities that illuminated the beauty of Hispanic culture. These experiences helped our students and staff connect with their roots, foster cultural pride, and cultivate a deep appreciation for the diverse cultures that enrich our world. Adding to the excitement, parents joined their children for themed literacy activities during our Literacy Night event. Families rotated through classrooms, with each room offering a unique activity to explore together. These hands-on experiences not only promoted literacy skills but also strengthened the connection between home and school, demonstrating the joy of learning as a shared family experience. October’s festivities ended with our Bring a Book to Life event, where imagination knew no bounds! In this enchanting experience, children, teachers, and parents came together to transform beloved stories to life through dynamic performances, acting out characters and adventures. This interactive storytelling fostered a love for reading, strengthened vocabulary, improved comprehension, and enhanced communication skills. As students embodied their favorite characters, they boosted memory retention, ignited creativity, and engaged deeply with books, turning reading into an unforgettable adventure. It also provided a wonderful opportunity for families to participate in their child’s learning, fostering a love for reading not only in the classroom but also at home.

  • Welcoming Our New President & CEO

We are thrilled to announce that Jessica Reich has officially stepped into the role of CEO of Mi Escuelita Preschool. After being named Interim in January, Jessica has demonstrated remarkable leadership and a deep understanding of our mission and values. Jessica began her journey with Mi Escuelita in 2005 as a Family Advocate, fresh out of college where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Human Development. Growing up in Costa Rica, Jessica was fully integrated into the culture, became bilingual in English and Spanish, while developing a profound appreciation for diverse cultures and the critical role of early childhood education. Over the years, she has held key roles within our organization, including Site Manager, Program Director, and Chief Program Officer. Her progression from a frontline advocate to the helm of the organization showcases her dedication and unwavering commitment to providing high-quality early childhood education. Jessica now becomes only the third CEO in Mi Escuelita’s 46-year history, following in the footsteps of Carolyn Strickland, our founder, and Gayle Nave. Jessica’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter as we build on our legacy of nurturing young learners, empowering their families, and championing the growth and success of our staff. Under her leadership, we aim to expand our programs, strengthen community partnerships, and deepen our impact on early childhood education across the DFW area. We are confident that under Jessica’s leadership, Mi Escuelita will remain a place where children, families, and staff thrive. We are excited about the road ahead and certain she will guide us into a new era of growth and continued success.
